Strengthening country systems for disaster preparedness
The CADRI Partnership's services offer helps governments strengthen national and local systems to ensure disaster preparedness that is effective, efficient, and timely-from small-scale emergencies to large-scale disasters across all types of hazards. Our tools, methodologies, and multi-sectoral expertise enable governments to lead inclusive, integrated assessments of their capacities to reduce disaster and climate risks and prepare for response and recovery.
Using CADRI's proven tools and approaches, countries can:
- Identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities across ten key sectors: Social Protection, Human Mobility, Nutrition, Health, Agriculture and Food Security, Culture, Infrastructure, Environment, Education, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
- Prioritize expert recommendations to address identified challenges.
- Develop and implement risk-informed emergency preparedness and contingency plans that respond to the needs of the most vulnerable groups and integrate humanitarian action with long-term development.
CADRI's 'Guide to Country Services' (available under Publications) provides step-by-step guidance on designing, coordinating, implementing a capacity diagnosis. It covers mobilizing experts, coordinating scoping and capacity diagnosis missions, prioritizing recommendations, and creating detailed action plans to integrate these recommendations into national planning.
The CADRI Tool supports the design, planning and implementation of capacity diagnosis missions, which can be used for both comprehensive assessments or focused missions targeting specific sectors and hazards. The CADRI Tool helps countries analyze their capacities in areas including disaster preparedness.
CADRI also offers an e-catalogue of training modules in disaster preparedness. These resources support the development of customized training programmes across sectors, helping countries build capacity and share good practices for preparedness, response, and recovery.
