Eastern & Southern Africa
Eswatini, officially the Kingdom of Eswatini and formerly named Swaziland is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by Mozambique to its northeast and South Africa to its north, west, south, and southeast. Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in Africa; despite this, its climate and topography are diverse, ranging from a cool and mountainous highveld to a hot and dry lowveld. As a result of climate change, Swaziland has, in recent years, experienced cyclic weather and climate hazards including drought, floods and storms (i.e. windstorms, hailstorms and cyclones).
The Swaziland National Plan of Action for (SNPLA) for Capacity Development (CD) in Disaster Risk Reduction was developed following an Inter-Agency Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Emergency Preparedness Response (EPR) Country Capacity Assessment (CCA) mission conducted from 12 to 23 August 2013. The SNPLA for capacity development in DRR was developed through an action planning workshop that was held from the 20-21st November, 2013.
