Latin America & The Caribbean
The Republic of Ecuador is a country in northwestern South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Ecuador also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 1,000 kilometers west of the mainland. Ecuador is at risk to several natural hazards, including drought, floods, landslides, volcano eruptions, and epidemics. Rapid urbanization, and environmental degradation including deforestation and unsustainable land and water resource management practices are the main risk drivers.
In November 2017, the CADRI Partnership was mobilized by SENPLADES (Ministry of Planning at that time) to conduct a ToT for Government sector ministries on how to conduct an evaluation of national and local capacities to manage disaster risk. The evaluation was postponed to mid-2018 and finally not carried out. Bilateral meeting between CADRI and delegation of Ecuador during GPDRR in May 2019, follow up on 2017 ToT and multisectoral CA was requested as well as suport for local level strategy implementation, Ecuador to formally request support at UNRC.
