RedR Australia

Humanitarian workers and professionals are increasingly exposed to challenging, insecure, remote or hostile environments due to lawlessness, political instability and armed conflict. It is essential they are adequately prepared for any dangers they may encounter.

RedR Australia's internationally recognised Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) prepares individuals to work in crisis zones or a range of hostile situations. This rigorous classroom and simulation training will enhance your knowledge of personal security so you are prepared to face difficult security situations.

The training course integrates Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) training delivered by our partners Real Response, giving you the skills and knowledge to operate in hostile environments around the world.

Real Response delivers a combination of theory and practical based emergency medical training, teaching you the skills to manage ballistic, penetrating and blast trauma. TECC skills learnt on the training course include commercial and improvised tourniquets and haemorrhage control, airway management of an unconscious casualty and an array of improvised techniques teaching students how to save and preserve life with limited resources.

RedR Australia

Logistics is a highly in-demand skill during a humanitarian crisis and this RedR training course will teach you what it takes to build a logistics career in the humanitarian sector.

Humanitarian logistics encompasses moving goods and equipment, relocating disaster-affected people, transferring casualties and moving of aid, relief workers and volunteers. Around two-thirds of funding in each emergency is spent on logistics, highlighting the need for effective and efficient systems.

This highly practical course provides an overview of logistics in humanitarian emergency operations. The course equips and refreshes individuals with the background and knowledge to apply logistics skills through a combination of on-site visits, exercises and scenarios.

The course focuses on the importance of logistics in the provision of aid to disaster survivors as well as its role in carrying out other disaster management operational activities. It examines the design of logistics systems and the importance of coordination in carrying out logistics operations efficiently and effectively.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the humanitarian logistics system and the activities involved in a logistics operation
  • Understand logistics processes
  • Assess the sharing of information, tools and resources of an effective networking / collaboration between humanitarian agencies

RedR Australia

RedR Australia’s Essentials of Humanitarian Practice training course teaches you everything you need to know about working within the modern humanitarian system and what it takes to respond to an international humanitarian crisis that involves a global response.

On this training course, you will learn the complexity of the international humanitarian relief system and the legal framework for humanitarian assistance. We will introduce you to the characteristics of natural hazards, conflict-induced emergencies, and the requirements for an effective humanitarian response, highlighting some of the dilemmas faced by humanitarians and aid workers.

During the training, you will learn about the various United Nations agencies that respond to disasters and the roles these agencies play in coordinating responses for various sectors such as health, water and sanitation and logistics.

You will discover how international non-government organisations work with these agencies to share information and data, to avoid duplication and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those who need it without causing harm.

We give you the opportunity to put the knowledge you gain into practice and to explore the team skills required to work effectively in the field.

The overall aim of the course is to improve the quality and professionalism of humanitarian action by deepening understanding of the modern humanitarian context, fundamentals and practical realities.

Learning Objectives:

  • A comprehensive overview of issues, systems and practice related to working in disasters and humanitarian emergencies
  • Increased depth of understanding of the context, history, foundations and new developments in humanitarian practice
  • An experience-based learning environment in which you can put your own skills and newly acquired knowledge into practice, as well as understand what humanitarian work is really like
