UNFPA is the lead UN agency delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s work on disaster and climate resilience is guided by the Sendai Framework for DRR, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNFPA works closely with governments to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and efforts to address gender-based violence are included in each country’s contingency plans and programmes. This approach reflects UNFPA’s increasing global efforts on linking humanitarian support to longer-term development outcomes – or “building back better”.

As one of CADRI’s Executive Partners, UNFPA makes annual contribution to the CADRI Pooled Fund to support the CADRI Secretariat functions at global and regional level. UNFPA, together with IFRC, led the integration of gender equity and the Leaving No One Behind principles in the CADRI Capacity Diagnosis and Planning modules.

UNFPA deploys specialized expertise in response to country demand for CADRI Partnership services in the areas of disaster preparedness, emergency response and resilience, climate change adaptation, population and data, sexual and reproductive health and gender equity, more specifically in:

• Youth and gender sensitive disaster risk and climate adaptation.
• Supporting the generation and use of age, sex and spatially disaggregated data in disaster and climate risk assessment and into effective and measurable early action and used as a baseline for humanitarian crisis and common operational data sets; 
• Resilience-building of health systems focusing on continued access to quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care and services, especially on emergency obstetric care;
• Strengthening reproductive health, reproductive rights, and the empowerment of women and girls to help them adapt to risks and meet the challenges of acute and long-term changes to the climate;
• National and sub-national preparedness and community capacity development by strengthening safety nets of communities to contribute to long-term improvements;
