United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is a training arm of the United Nations System. UNITAR delivers innovative training and conducts research on knowledge systems to increase the capacity of its beneficiaries to respond to global and constantly evolving challenges.

The mission of UNITAR is to develop capacities of individuals, organizations and institutions to enhance global decision-making and to support country-level action for shaping a better future.

UNITAR works in the thematic areas of multilateralism; economic development and social inclusion; environmental sustainability and green development; sustainable peace; and resilience and humanitarian assistance.

The small size of the Institute and its independence within the United Nations system enable it to respond with a high degree of flexibility to new challenges in the area of training and research.
