In the context of an increasing number of requests for capacity development services in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) using the CADRI methodology, there is a need to expand the pool of DRR experts trained on the CADRI capacity development approach in the regions. In this respect, the CADRI Partnership delivered a workshop for regional and country-level experts of member agencies to present the CADRI methodology covering the full disaster risk reduction spectrum across a wide range of sectors. The 3-day workshop was held in September 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The objectives of the regional workshop were to:

  • Assess capacity development needs and resources in the Eastern and Southern Africa region;
  • Train a pool of regional experts on the CADRI approach to capacity development and the use of CADRI methodology and tool;
  • Identify the pre-requisites for the activation of the CADRI Partnership in the region with a focus on countries in the pipeline, such as Zimbabwe.
