The secretariat to ISDR system is UNISDR secretariat. The ISDR system includes all DRR institutions, organizations and practitioners.

By increasing awareness of DRR as essential to sustainable development, UNISDR seeks to build disaster-resilient communities and reduce the human, economic and environmental cost of natural hazards and related technological and environmental disasters.

UNISDR secretariat advocates for and coordinates DRR within the broader ISDR system, and within CADRI the secretariat: 

  • participates in delivery of regional workshops
  • contributes to UNCT training on creating a strong institutional basis for DRR
  • hosts and maintains the CADRI secretariat
  • contributes technical expertise upon request
  • supports delivery of training to Regional Coordinators (RCs) and UNCTs.

Glossary

CADRI

An inter-agency initiative of UNDP/BCPR, OCHA and the UNISDR secretariat, CADRI's mission is to advance knowledge of, and strengthen sustainable capacity development for disaster risk reduction worldwide.

disaster

Serious disruption of a community or a society: widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses and impacts, beyond coping with available resources.

DRR
